Huawei has begun to tease a new smartphone that will be released. The smartphone in issue is reportedly Huawei’s comeback to the clamshell form factor, as per a recent rumor. Huawei hasn’t challenged Samsung’s dominance in this market since late 2022.
Even so, the Pocket S acted as a more affordable substitute for Huawei’s P50 Pocket, which was released at the end of 2021.
Contrary to previous expectations, Huawei’s next clamshell foldable will not arrive as the Pocket 2 Flip. Instead, the company has elected for the simpler ‘Pocket 2’, which it describes as an ‘eye-catching work’. Seemingly, Huawei will present the Pocket 2 during a fashion festival of sorts, although exact details remain unknown for now.
Nonetheless, Huawei has confirmed that the Pocket 2 will debut later this week on February 22 at 14:30 local time (06:30 UTC). In other words, Huawei has decided to crash Xiaomi‘s next flagship launch, which will occur a few hours later at 19:00 China Standard Time (11:00 UTC). Currently, it is unclear how Huawei will distinguish the Pocket 2 from the P50 Pocket and Pocket S. Based on the sole teaser it has published so far, it intends to carry over the circular camera and secondary display aesthetic present on previous models, as last week’s leak claimed would be the case.
