A Swedish court of appeals decided on Monday that Swedish payments company Klarna, which violated the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation, must pay an administrative fine of 7.5 million Swedish crowns ($733,324).
The court stated in a statement that, among other things, Klarna had not provided its customers with enough information about how it would preserve their personal data and that some of the information was confusing or hard to find.
The fine by Sweden’s Administrative Court of Appeal was higher than the 6 million crowns penalty originally imposed by a lower court.
Klarna did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
