A Russian, a Belarusian, and an American were on board a Russian-built Soyuz spacecraft that was being launched on Saturday from Kazakhstan’s Baikonur cosmodrome to the International Space Station (ISS), according to live footage.
Due to an issue with a chemical power source, the initial scheduled launch on Thursday was canceled just before takeoff.
On Monday at 1510 GMT, the Soyuz spacecraft, which is carrying American Tracy Dyson, Belarusian Marina Vasilevskaya, and Russian Oleg Novitsky, is scheduled to dock with the International Space Station.
Space is one of the last remaining areas where the United States and Russia continue to collaborate despite the dire state of their relations as a consequence of the war in Ukraine.
Novitsky and Vasilevskaya will return to Earth on April 6 with Loral O’Hara, a U.S. astronaut currently aboard the orbital station.
