It’s being considered by Microsoft to place advertisements in the Start menu in Windows 11. More specifically, it seeks to include app store adverts in the suggested portion of the menu. If you have used Windows 10 extensively in the past, I can hear you sighing in defeat since the previous version of the OS still displays advertising on the Start menu for downloadable apps. Currently, Microsoft is limited to showing advertisements in this version to Windows Insiders in the US who are enrolled in the Beta Channel. If you’re not a beta tester or if you’re using a device under an organization’s management, you won’t see them.
You can also completely turn off the adverts. Toggle off “Show recommendations for tips, app promotions, and more” in the Start area after selecting Personalization under Settings. Since Microsoft has a history of integrating advertisements into its desktop platforms, you might wish to keep in mind the previously described actions even if this experiment—like any other—may never achieve a larger rollout. Microsoft also started using test promos for its services, such as OneDrive, in the menu that appears when you click on your profile photo last year.
