Google is giving everyone access to Photos functions that are only available to subscribers in an uncommon move. Users of Google Photos that utilize the free version can access its better editing features without having to pay $20 a year or more. This implies that a few of Google’s AI-powered features, like Magic Eraser, Magic Editor, and Photo UnBlur, will be available to all users.
Photo UnBlur does just what it says, bringing a little hazy photo into sharper focus. Using the Magic Eraser tool, you may erase or disguise objects or people from photos—such as a photo bomber or wayward trash can. Magic Editor resizes, stretches, and moves things using generative AI. You can even move yourself closer to someone else or into the center of a picture. Large-scale adjustments are also possible, such as turning the gray sky blue. Users of Magic Editor for Android and iOS devices with Google Photos are entitled to 10 monthly saves; to exceed this restriction, one must purchase a Google Pixel device or a Google One plan with 2TB+.
The Google Photos features will roll out to non-subscribers over a few weeks, starting May 15. On desktop, they will only be available if you have a Chromebook Plus that has ChromeOS version 118+. To access on mobile, you’ll need at least Android 8.0 or iOS 15 and 3GB of RAM.
