The feature has not yet been made available to more people; it is still in the beta phase.
OpenAI, the company that created ChatGPT, appears to have quietly unveiled a new feature. The new GPT Mentions functionality has been deployed to ChatGPT by the AI powerhouse managed by Sam Altman. Similar to Slack, this lets users tag custom GPTs or bots to join a chat.
The creators of OpenAI unveiled Custom GPTs, a feature that lets users design their own bots and monetize them on the later-released GPT Store, during the conference for developers. The store offers helpful customized versions of GPT made by different users.
“This will seriously increase the value of custom GPTs in day-to-day use. Friction is down, and usage will go up. It’s also a huge boost to OpenAI’s app store ambitions. It’s a good weekend to start building custom GPTs,” wrote Dan Shipper, CEO of Every, an AI startup. Shipper was among the first to predict that OpenAI was working on the feature.
Ever since this development, there have been many custom GPTs created by users, paving the way for a feature that would allow interactions between users. The feature allows users to use @ to tag other custom GPTs in their prompts. This feature is currently in beta and hasn’t been rolled out to users. Reportedly, the feature will only be available to accounts that have a subscription to ChatGPT Plus.
When rolled out, users can see it in the chat interface of ChatGPT. Users can use multiple GPTS in each interaction with the chatbot. The new feature expands the capabilities of ChatGPT much beyond the chat function. This feature can aid in something like workflow automation and handling complex yet everyday tasks with the help of AI.
GPT-4 will allow custom GPTS and plugins to act in the same prompt, allowing ChatGPT to offer the best features to assist users in their tasks. This feature will be unique to ChatGPT, pushing it ahead of many other chatbots such as Google Bard, Anthropic Claude 2, etc.
