With the Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra, Samsung leverages Google’s Gemini Nano AI model for some on-device AI features. This model was recently retrofitted on many 2023 Galaxy flagships through the One UI 6.1 update, and minor Galaxy AI features will also be added to certain smartphones from 2022 and 2021 shortly. It looks that Samsung has now provided an update on its future plans for Galaxy AI.
At least that’s what a report from the South Korean website Daum Herald Economy claims (via SamMobile). According to the report, Samsung Electronics’ Executive Director Cho Cheol-min, who oversees System LSI, reportedly made some unusual remarks at the Artificial Intelligence Semiconductor Forum regarding Google’s plans for Gemini Nano 2 and the Galaxy S25 generation. This is because Google has not yet released any details regarding Gemini Nano’s successor.
Regarding this, it is said that Samsung and Google are now organizing a new collaboration for the 2025 Galaxy flagships, and a meeting with the search engine manufacturer is scheduled for next week to discuss this. The Galaxy S25 flagships will come with the Large Language Model (LLM) Gemini Nano 2, while details about its upgrades are still pending. It’s also unclear if the next Galaxy AI features will be free of charge in addition to the smartphone’s original selling price. The CEO of Samsung Mobile Experience hinted in February that future charges would apply to new or improved AI services.
