The unpredictable behavior of the wipers in automated mode, one of the main concerns about Tesla vehicles, is set to be fixed “soon,” the company’s AI engineer promises. What the supposedly “new improvement” for the Tesla wipers not wiping in driving rain while using Autopilot actually implies is still unknown.
Mum’s the word on whether the automated Tesla wiper patch will address situations where a shattered bug causes the wipers to abruptly engage on a sunny day while driving, or when headlights confuse them during a nighttime drive.
Tesla automatic wipers mode fix
Tesla did address some of its known wiper problems by simply giving drivers physical controls with the buttons and scroll wheel that can turn them on and off or adjust their speed to slow down the sometimes frantic performance that results from a light drizzle.
What Tesla’s AI team member Yun-Ta Tsai now suggests, however, is that the upcoming “new improvement” concerns the wipers behavior in automatic mode while on Autopilot and FSD. That’s the biggest concern and the promise that an update to fix it will “go out soon” was given in a reply to post that demonstrates the problem.
Once the driver switched to manual mode, the wipers started working as they should if there was a proper rain sensor installed and the car didn’t just rely on the camera software to give it instructions when and how to activate the wiper in automatic mode.
There are plenty of theories why Tesla’s cars can’t figure out automatic wipers, but a potential fix will now apparently involve the team responsible for machine learning and artificial intelligence.
