X will no longer let users to conceal their blue checks, whether or whether they have a premium subscription. The app started alerting users on Thursday that “X Premium’s hide your checkmark feature is going away soon.”
The modification was made soon after X started unannouncedly putting blue checks on the profiles of “influential” users who pay for a premium subscription and have at least 2,500 followers. Elon Musk claimed that the change was intended to be a benefit, but some of his detractors, including users who had previously been verified, weren’t happy with the blue badge showing up on their accounts because it raised suspicions that they were truly paying for a membership.
