Yahoo Mail has had app-related issues for millions of customers, and the company has stated that a solution might not come along for another day.
They advised users not to do this if they did not know their log-in credentials, as they risked being locked out, even if they could delete and reinstall the software.
Yahoo Customer Care said: ‘Thank you for your patience as we have worked to resolve an issue with our Apps today.
‘A fix has rolled out, but this may take up to 24 hours to reach your device.
‘To achieve a faster resolution, you can uninstall and reinstall your App.
‘Please note: We recommend not uninstalling your App unless your login credentials (password etc.) are known, or your recovery channels are up to date, as you will be required to log back in upon reinstall.’
Many users on Twitter sent messages to their support account, saying they had not managed to access their emails after trying to fix the issue.
One man angrily tweeted: ‘My password doesn’t work and the app now says there are no recovery options. WTF? At least the system tried to send me a 2FA message during the day now it seems my account is fxxxxked?…’
Yahoo replied that they were ‘sorry to hear this’ and asked them to contact them privately to discuss potential support options.
The problems began yesterday morning, with users unable to access their apps and some complaining of losing ‘important files’ and work emails. More said other apps including Yahoo Finance and Yahoo Weather were also affected.
The company tweeted last night: ‘Some users may still be experiencing issues with the Yahoo apps. We continue to investigate and will keep you posted. Thanks for your patience.’
They later claimed to have found the solution, but it would take some time to get everything back up and running.
